Cheryl Poinsette Brown

Cheryl Poinsette Brown is an attorney and human resources consultant providing custom solutions and advice to individuals, managers and organization leaders in government, non-profit organizations and private industry. She also provides negotiation and conflict resolution services to individuals and organizations, in both the private and public sectors. Her conflict resolution practice is focused on mediation.

Cheryl’s early career was as a California attorney, in private practice with a major law firm, then with a city attorney’s office and finally in a corporate legal department, all as litigation counsel. Later, she moved into corporate human resources, eventually becoming an SVP responsible for all manner of functions and initiatives, including:

  • Managing the human resources function, including organizational change initiatives, leadership development, employee relations, EEO, diversity, supporting 12,000 employees and 20-member staff
  • Building C-suite support for and implementing corporate wide diversity training
  • Leading strategic planning regarding human capital
  • Designing and implementing restructuring following a major merger, including assessments, voluntary retirement program, sales force restructuring and retraining
  • Conducting team building, individual skill building and management training

From there she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she established her mediation and consulting practice in 2006, providing:

  • Strategic planning and change management initiatives
  • Coaching to individuals facing difficult work situations
  • Mediation of disputes
  • Fact-finding and claims investigations for companies in EEO matters
  • Custom training for EEO and prevention of sexual harassment, conflict and meeting management, diversity and inclusion

EDUCATION

Cheryl is a graduate of Harvard Law School, with an undergraduate B.A. degree from Howard University. She also has certifications in Workplace Conflict Management & Alternate Dispute Resolution from Cornell University, School of Industrial and Labor Relations, and Executive Human Resources from the University of Michigan.

Cheryl remains a member of the Bar of California and of Georgia. These days, she resides in Denver, Colorado where she is looking forward to continuing her evolving career, enjoying empty nester life with her husband and two adult children and finding new, meaningful community connections.
